This position is mainly responsible for translating English content into Chinese and writing original Chinese content for various platforms, including internal newsletters, website content, social media (WeChat and Weibo), university communications publications, and other projects. Content types include news, interviews, features, captions, subtitles, bios, and more. Some translation from English to Chinese may be required, but will be post-edited.
The candidate we are looking for should be passionate about communication, with a firm grasp of translation/transcreation techniques. You should be willing to learn and improve your translation skills as you learn more about NYU Shanghai and writing for high education.
You would also be working with other marketing team members to deliver daily, weekly or long-term quality Chinese content for different marketing goals. English will be the source language for most of your work, so you must have a firm grasp of the nuances of the language. Our shortlist of expectations are: fact checking ability, attention to detail, a demonstrated proficiency in finding creative localization solutions, and strong Chinese writing skills.
ResponsibilitiesTranslate English content (~2,500 words/day) into Chinese and occasionally vice versa with attention to facts and linguistic nuance. Regularly produce various content types, including features, interviews, social media posts, captions, etc. Collaborate with other departments to create innovative content ideas. Follow up with stakeholders, including students, professors, and other university offices to ensure accuracy.
Required EducationMinimum Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree preferred. Major in Translation, Interpretation or similar field preferred.
Required ExperienceNative Chinese speaker with strong English reading/writing skills and Chinese writing skills. Proven work experience (2-5 years) as a Translator, Interpreter or Writer.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExcellent proofreading skills, with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors. Open to edits/advice and ability to learn quickly from practice. Conscientious and a team player/collaborator. Familiarity with science writing, academic writing, or marketing a plus. Flexible, and able to respond to requests with a short turnaround (1-2 days).
